My Mental Diet Started Today | Here's What It Looks Like

On a regular basis, I do something called a "Mental Diet". I wanted to share what that looks like, so you can enjoy the bliss that comes with this reset.

What is a Mental Diet

A mental diet is a period of time where you give your mind a complete break from this insane world. It's like spring cleaning, but for the brain and soul.

I first heard of mental diets from a book by the late, great Emmett Fox. He has a pamphlet called "The 7 Day Mental Diet."


How I do this - My 3 Day Mental Diet

1....I Block all distractions
I use the freedom app on my devices, and block all websites and apps that aren't writing, recording, or work related. (not sponsored or affiliated).

This means for the next three days, the only things I can open on my devices are Scrivener, Email, and a few select websites I need to upload files to.

When I go onto my computer or phone, I get a screen that looks like this

2....I don't complain

For example, it's very hot and humid in Austin.

For the next few days, I'm not indulging in the "I'm MELTING LIKE AN ICE CREAM CONE IN A SAUNA 😖" thinking. hahah!!

3...Books

I use this time as a sort of mind-boosting retreat. I gather my favorite books and read those throughout the day.

The books I'm spending the most time with during this fast is my catalog of Dr. David Hawkins books. All of his books are absolutely life-changing (for me, at least).

4....Creative Work

This is a time for focus and deep thinking. This is when my brain is at its absolute best.

5....Have fun

I plan adventures and outings. I'm going swimming in a bit, and dancing tomorrow, and possibly grabbing the infamous Netflix taco at Suerte Austin with some friends 👇(tacos = love. Love = tacos)

Make it your own

A great place to start is with a 24 hour period. Set aside 24 hours to give your mind a rest from worry, stress, and apps.

As business owners, we REALLY NEED this sort of mental space.
